We are preparing for a large crowd to visit Independence County for the upcoming Autumn Antique & Crafts Festival as well as Lyon Homecoming, Oct 22-24. We want to be sure our tourists and guests are properly welcomed!
The Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce is offering a free Hospitality Training Program Oct 12th from 1-4 pm at First Community Bank. Kristine Puckett, Tourism Consultant, from the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism will be providing training.
Space is limited to the first 30 participants. Non-Chamber members can participate for 25.00 per person.
Each participant will receive a lapel pin and certificate of completion from the Department of Parks and Tourism. The Welcome to Arkansas program is designed to increase customer service skills and knowledge of local attractions to every individual who tourists may encounter during their say in our state and region.
The audience for this program should include lodging, restaurant, and tourism attraction employees, as well as, convenience store, gas station, hospital, retail store and bank employees.

Ozark Foothills FilmFest Issues 2010 Call for Entries
New Entry Category Will Showcase Work by College Filmmakers
Ozark Foothills FilmFest is currently accepting submissions for the 9th annual
festival, set for March 24-28, 2010 in Batesville, Arkansas. The festival is
non-competitive. Entries are accepted in three categories:
OFFICIAL SELECTION. Narrative or documentary films forty minutes or longer in
length. Six to eight Official Selections are screened during the festival.
INDIE FILM SHOWCASE. Narrative, documentary, animated, or experimental films
less than an hour in length. Showcase films are screened in groups organized by
genre or subject. A minimum of four showcases are scheduled during the
festival.
COLLEGE STUDENT FILM SHOWCASE. This new category recognizes the quality and
diversity of work being created by students in college film programs.
Filmmakers whose work is chosen as an OFFICIAL SELECTION will be invited to
attend the festival to present and discuss their work; lodging and travel
expenses will be provided. Special consideration is given to filmmakers from
Arkansas and neighboring states. Filmmakers age 18 and under are urged to
submit their work to the organization’s annual T Tauri Youth Film Festival,
www.ttauri.org.
Submissions must be on DVD and accompanied by a non-refundable $10 entry fee.
Films will not be returned unless sufficient return postage is provided. A
complete entry form is available at

All entries must be received by January 1, 2010. Mail entries to Ozark

The New Florida Boys will perform Wednesday, July 22nd at 8pm; Randy Houser will perform Thursday, July 23rd at 8pm; Michael Peterson will perform Friday, July 24th at 8pm and last but not least Ronnie McDowell will perform Saturday, July 25th at 8pm. Old Independence Regional Museum offers a Day Camp
Old Independence Regional Museum is pleased to offer a day camp exploring frontier culture. Through hands-on activities and demonstrations campers will experience some of the work and play of Arkansas Frontier life and will discover what it was like for families who depended on the environment to meet many of their needs. Some of the activities will include: Candle Making, Lantern Making, Planting, Identifying Animal Tracks, Dyeing, Spinning, Weaving, 19th Century Toys and Games and Basket Weaving. Who: Rising 3rd, 4th 5th & 6th graders. When: Tuesday, July 21-Friday, July 24, 3rd & 4th. When: Tuesday, July 28-Friday, July 31, 5th & 6th. Time: 9am – 1pm. Sponsorships opportunities are still available and anyone wanting to donate to the live or silent auctions is encouraged to do so by July 1.

Old Independence Regional Museum "Scouting Out Arkansas History" Workshop for Boy and Girl Scouts June 29th.
Old Independence Regional Museum will present a special program for Boy and Girl Scouts on Monday, June 29th from 9:30 to 12:30. Through hands-on demonstrations, crafts and traditional games, scouts between the ages of 6 and 12 will learn about life on the Arkansas frontier. They will make several take-home craft items, and those who complete the workshop will be awarded a limited edition, custom designed Old Independence patch. The fee for the workshop will be $5.00. North Arkansas Dance Theatre Presents "Beauty & the Beast"
In a fund raising event for the North Arkansas Dance Theatre, three local dance schools will be presenting "Beauty & the Beast". The Izard County Dance Academy will perform on Saturday, May 16th at 7 p.m. located at the John E. Miller Auditorium on the campus of Ozarka College in Melbourne. The Mtn. View Ballet Etc., will perform on Sunday, May 17 at 2:30 p.m. located at the Mtn. View Elementary School's Multipurpose Room. And finally, the Batesville Ballet Etc. will perform on Friday, May 29th at 7 p.m. and Saturday, May 30 at 3:30 p.m. located at Brown Chapel on the campus of Lyon College in Batesville. Admission is $7 for adults and $3 for children under 12. All proceeds will go to the non-profit organization, the North Arkansas Dance Theatre.
The American Cancer Society Relay for Life
The Relay for Life will be held May 29-30 from 6pm to 6am at Riverside Park in Batesville. Teams will take turns walking, running or even strolling around the track. Relay teams will be individuals representing corporations, churches, families and various other entities. Relay team members will also get to enjoy games, food, music and camaraderie while camping out on the surrounding grounds. At 9pm Friday participants will share in a Luminaria Ceremony of Hope to remember those individuals who have been affected by cancer. Unity Fest at Riverside Park Saturday, May 30, 2009
The Fourth Annual Unity Fest will be held at Batesville's Riverside Park starting at 3pm. The "Kid's Corner" will include several Bounce houses, Moonwalks & Castles. There will even be an old-fashioned pie auction featuring special desserts created and donated by area businesses. You may purchase a ticket in advance for the catfish dinner which starts at 5pm ticket are $10 for adults. Any persons over 21 that purchases a $10 ticket will be eligible to win one of the grand prizes, such as a 2009 Ford Ranger sport truck autographed by Mark Martin, Yamaha Enduro motorcycle or 46-inch Sanyo television. You won't want to miss Entertainer James Payne, a Grammy Award-winning, singer-songwriter. James teamed with Del Way in his latest single, "Good Ole Boys Like Us". Proceeds from this event will go towards John 3:16 Ministries a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping men with addictions.
